Classified: Operation Clumber Park - The Arrival of Nellie

Clumber Park
Sunday 26 May 2019  10am - 4pm

Join us for the official launch of our project, Classified: Operation Clumber Park, with the arrival of Nellie, a life-sized replica of Churchill's trench digging machine.

For this event, we encourage visitors to experience our interactive replica of Nellie, learn about the history behind the project and how this shaped the landscape and mirrors the work that we are doing now and in the future. There will be entertainment, traditional games and various scheduled walks, to make the event suitable for all ages and interests.

Our activity timetable for the day is as follows:

  • 'When Churchill Came to Clumber Park': A led walk around the site from 10:30 - 11:30 (Starts at Nellie)
  • Jayne Darling Performs: A selection of 1940's music performed by local performer Jayne Darling. Begins at 12:00 and will perform two 45 minute sets with a break in between.
  • Ranger-led Landscape Walks: 14:00-16:00 (Starts at Nellie)
  • Other activities and games are available throughout the day.

Nellie is positioned on Amy's Corner, which can be found next to the Laundry Yard entrance in our Main Visitor Facilities.

We encourage visitors to bring a picnic and blanket; enjoy your lunch while listening to Jayne Darling performing 1940's music by Nellie.

Booking not needed. This event is free, but normal admission charges apply for the venue.

Children are welcome. Dogs on leads welcome.

Visitors should wear suitable clothing for the outdoors.

The event is fully accessible.
