Open Churches Weekends in North Nottinghamshire

7 & 8  and 21 & 22 July 2018

More than 120 churches are taking part in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham Open Churches Weekends, which offer people a great opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful and historic buildings in Nottinghamshire, some of them not normally open.

Some churches will be opening their doors for extra hours and services, while others will be encouraging people to visit with the offer of tower tours, cream teas, concerts, exhibitions and fetes.

The events run over two weekends in the summer: 7th & 8th July and 21st & 22nd July.  The Bassetlaw, Bawtry, Newark & Southwell Deanery Churches take part on the weekend of 7th and 8th July and the Mansfield, Nottingham and south Nottinghamshire Deaneries on the 21st/22nd July.

The Revd David McCoulough, Director of Partnerships & Mission in the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham, said: “We are so fortunate to have such a rich variety of historical buildings in our towns and villages to visit; places of prayer and worship, centres of community life and service.   Growing Disciples: Wider, Younger, Deeper is at the heart of our mission in every community and I hope these weekends will be opportunities to welcome new visitors and old friends and neighbours, and to establish the beginnings of new relationships.”

Booklets containing details about every church taking part, and the activities and services they are offering and their opening times are available in local churches, libraries and Tourist Information Centres, or to find out what's happening near you view the Open Churches booklet on screen using this link.
