We are Rattlejag Morris from Retford, a mixed dance side of all ages who share a passion for keeping our old English tradition of Morris dancing alive!
We formed back in 2002 and dance our own style of Morris specifically from Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. We are different from the usual Morris sides as we use various handheld percussion such as rattles and bell sticks instead of hankies!
Our practise season is from September to May. We do this in Retford in the Methodisit Church hall on Grove Street, 20:30 - 22:00. Followed by a brief libation in the pub across the road!
It doesn’t matter whether you have dance experience or not as we will teach you all the dances and won’t force you to ‘dance out’ until you feel comfortable.
Musicians are welcome too!
We dance out and about all year round with May-September being our busiest period as all the folk festivals are on at this time. Our local festival is The Gate to Southwell Folk Festival that we support every year.
Please check out our website for more information about Rattlejag, particularly our local research and for information on the history of Morris dancing if you find yourself intrigued!
You can also find us on Facebook, where can find out where we are dancing next and on YouTube where there are videos of us dancing out through the years!
